Students talk tech with the Duke of York

FOUR students from The Oldham Academy North attended the Open Future_ North VIP Event on 7 November at the Old Town Hall in Oldham and had a once in a lifetime opportunity in meeting the Duke of York, Prince Andrew Windsor.

It provided a context for the Open Future_ North programme and why and how Wayra UK is working with Oldham Council. The Oldham Academy students engaged with a keynote speech from the Duke of York and had a chance to hear the Open Future_ North finalists pitch.

The Duke of York spoke with students about their studies and interest in business, entrepreneur and enterprise. This event provided students with the opportunity to learn about an exciting new digital enterprise initiative coming to Oldham.

Ben Branford, Year 9 student from the Academy said: “I was quite star struck! It was flattering to meet the Duke of York”

Also, fellow pupil Hashna Begum, Year 9, stated: “It was a surprise until I got there! The Duke of York asked me what I wanted to do when I was older and he was really supportive of my ideas and aspirations.”
