Olympic Hockey gold medalist Nicola White

OLYMPIC hockey gold medalist visited The Oldham Academy North on Friday 11th November, where she spoke to the students about the key to success. Nicola gave an inspirational speech which truly motivated and moved the students and staff who watched and listened in awe.

The Olympian was with the students for an hour and a half and in this time inspired many youngsters to follow their dreams and never give up. Along with Nicola was her gold medal, which the students had the chance to look at up close and personal, and ask Nicola questions about her story and journey to the Olympic Games.

The Year 10 Girls P.E class had the opportunity to learn hockey from Nicola in the Oldham Academy North sports centre as part of their P.E lesson. Nicola taught them the basics of the game and was later presented with flowers, an art piece of herself created by Year 10 Graphics group and homemade cakes from the Academy.

Nicola is an inspirational lady and someone to follow closely in the future as she continues her successful career in the future. She has a huge impact on some of our year 10 girls who are now keen and raring to get involved in hockey.”
