MU Foundation football match at Old Trafford

TWO Year 11 students from The Oldham Academy North were selected over the May school holidays to play a 60 minute football match on famous Manchester United football pitch, “The Theatre of Dreams”.

Ebad Amin, 16, and Ali Abdur Rahman, also 16, played in a team made up of students from Manchester United Foundations Hub partnership schools on Tuesday 31st May. The Oldham football stars were provided with a full Manchester United kit and parents, carers and friends were invited to spectate and watch the football match take place. Both students scored a goal each for their team which resulted in the game finishing in a 3-3 draw.

Ebad Amin, Head Boy at The Oldham Academy North, stated that walking out onto the pitch at Old Trafford Football ground was a “dream come true”.

“When I was told I would be playing a football game at Manchester United, I couldn’t believe it. I felt so lucky to have been selected. The day itself was an amazing experience and I was so happy to have scored! I am really thankful and appreciative that I was given this opportunity.”

The Oldham Academy North have been in partnership with the MU Foundation since the beginning of June 2016 and are looking forward to the opportunity and life experiences this partnership will bring for the students at the Academy. Principal Martin Knowles said:

“Our partnership with Manchester United Foundation will provide many more opportunities like this for our students to broaden their minds and be inspired to achieve. I am sure these 2 students and their families will never forget it!”
