Textiles

KS3 Curriculum

All students in years 7, 8 and 9 study Textiles for one rotation per academic year.

In Year 7, students learn how to use a sewing machine and also develop their ability to apply decoration to fabric including transfer and block printing, stencilling, appliqué and use of the computerised sewing machine to produce a drawstring for use during their time at the Academy.

In Years 8 and 9 students continue to develop their textile skills by completing design and make projects that challenges and supports their learning.  Year 8 create an Ugly Doll using material with a repeat pattern designed using CAD and the incorporation of E -Textiles to add LED lights to the product. Year 9 apply the skills they have gained in Year 7 & 8 and select their own techniques to add surface decoration to either a phone or tablet case.
